General guidance based on HSE regulations. Your risk assessment decides what’s required, and we’ll confirm it with you.
Behind the tool
How we decide.
Where do these rules come from?
Each result is linked to the regulation that creates the duty: the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005, COSHH 2002, the Working Time Regulations 1998, and HSE’s Approved Code of Practice L117 for lift-truck drivers.
What’s the difference between ‘legal duty’ and ‘best practice’?
A legal duty applies when your risk assessment shows exposure at the levels set out in the regulations. Best practice items, such as forklift medicals and drug and alcohol testing, are strongly recommended by HSE guidance or are central to managing your wider duty of care.
Is this a substitute for a risk assessment?
No. Your risk assessment decides what’s required. The checker shows where to start, and we’ll confirm the right programme with you.
